Hi,
Saw this announcement from the WIDE guys. May be someone can setup
something like this in Nepal as well. Would have been interesting to have
live streams from the CAN finotech this year.. :-). may be in future.
A solar Eclipse filling a GigE is quite something.
thanks

For ISPs on DIX-IE,
Effective on tomorrow (Mar 29th) evening in JST there will be a total
eclipse. NICT is going to provide its streaming from StarBED, which is
a large-scale network emulator in Kanazawa, Japan. In the last eclipse
in spite of an annular eclipse, the total aggregated traffic to DIX-IE
was almost overflown at the GbE attachment of WIDE Project. As the
eclipse progressed the traffic increased gradually. It was lucky for
us that the eclipse completed before the GbE was fully occupied. This
time, we temporally installed a 10GE attachment to DIX-IE based on the
experience last year because it will be a total eclipse.
The requests from the Internet user will be delivered to the server
installed in StarBED in usual path. The requested stream will be
delivered to the temporally installed 10GE router at 202.249.2.186.
As it obtains nexthop information from the regular WIDE router, the
traffic will be delivered to ISP routers directly from the 10GE
router. While this is a little bit unusual operation, your
understanding is appreciated because this is a temporally solution.
For the details of streaming of the eclipse, please see Live Eclipse
web page at http://www.live-eclipse.org/
